This listing features an authentic concert poster which was originally created in 1966 to promote a concert headlined by the up-and-coming British band known as The Mindbenders. The concert took place on July 8th, 1966 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, California. The artwork was done by legendary artist Wes Wilson, who used a visual pun on the band's name. The poster offered here was printed shortly after the 1966 concert and comes from the SECOND PRINT RUN!
The Mindbenders poster is one of the earliest posters from the iconic Bill Graham series. As the 16th poster in the series, it's commonly referred to as BG-16. Obviously, the first printing was created before the 1966 Fillmore appearance. In the 55 years since, the BG-16 poster has been officially printed only three additional times! The poster offered here (BG-16-2) is from the very earliest of those subsequent print runs!
The official, licensed print variations are as follows:
The 1st printing poster was created before the concert and has a chartreuse image. BG-16-OP-1 measures approximately 14" x 20" in size. The poster bears the union logo 72 in the lower right corner and "Wes Wilson '66" runs vertically up the lower right margin. Only 1,500 original posters were printed before the 1966 concert.
The post-concert 2nd printing offered here (BG-16-2) was printed shortly after the show and does NOT feature the union logo or the Wes Wilson credit featured in the other printings. The image is a deeper yellow, and the poster measures 13 15/16" x 19 3/4" in size. Its estimated that the second print run consisted of less than 500 posters, making it far more scarce than the pre-concert variation.
The 3rd printing also lacks the union logo, but "Wess Wilson 16" appears at the bottom of the left margin. The bottom strip and design are chartreuse, and this third printing measures 13 15/16" x 19 3/4" in size. The 4th and most recent printing is on uncoated matte stock and has "W 2021" in the lower right hand margin. It was printed in by Wolfgang's Vault in a very limited 100 copy run. BG-16-RP-4 measures approximately 13" x 19" in size.
Again, the vintage poster offered here is NOT a bootlegged example or cheap reprint! This is an AUTHORIZED printing from the SECOND PRINT RUN! The best part is the incredible condition of this poster! Despite its age, the poster is still in FLAWLESS condition! You can't do any better! With the bright colors and razor sharp edges, this gorgeous poster looks like it was printed yesterday!
Considering the pristine condition and scarcity, this gorgeous poster will serve as a great investment piece for many years to come! Why spend thousands on a first printing (see last pic) when you can get this one, which is much tougher to find, for a fraction of the cost?
